What About Ramadan?

What about Ramadan? Do you really understand what is the meaning of fasting in the month of Ramadan? I don't know anything about it, but I have heard from someone, I couldn't remember who. Most probably from my mate Ehab in White City, London.

Why Islam Lord Nabi Muhamad wants his disciples to fast during Ramadan before they celebrate Islam New Year? This fasting month is not about torturing yourself and go for hunger strike or try to rest the function of your digesting stomach (come on wake up man, that is not going to work. your stomach is not going to stop or rest if you fast, it will convert the fat in your body to energy. it stops only when you die, please don't be silly). From what I was told, when you fast for whole day, you are hit by hunger & thirst and that feeling will took you into roller coaster ride. You are most likely to get upset with minute problem. The purpose of fasting is to train yourself to be a better person, to become a gentleman/lady, by being practicing your level of patient and control your temper when you are extremely fragile in emotion, in this case hunger & thirst. For a month of fasting effort, you would have changed yourself for a better being. And the New Year celebration comes by to celebrate your successful of transformation.

So, that's the meaning of fasting huh? People may wonder and ask, you are a Buddhist practitioner, what makes you think you know about Islam preaching and the meaning of fasting? Honestly I don't but that does make sense, doesn't it? In Buddhism, we were asked to be patient and always watch over our behaviour in all situation. My Lord Buddha Shakyamuni is a gentleman himself. In Buddhism we call this 'Ren Ru Bolomi', like in Christianity. [One who slap the left side of Jesus, Jesus asked one to slap on the right again and ask 'Is it enough?'] before he left without getting angry and emotional. Can you understand why Jesus did that? Because he is the proper gentleman, even facing someone who is hurting him. How many in this world can do that? Almost all will say you are a nutter!

Should I fast during Ramadan? I guess I too should, as GM has urge us to practice the 'Ren Ru Bolomi' init? Wait the minute, even if I don't want to fast during this time of the year, it would be a difficulty for me. Why? Because my family members are fast during this time of the year too and they won't cook! But your family weren't Muslim! Yeah, so what? It's good to you isn't it?
